After 5 years of intensive full time training I gained an MChiro in Chiropractic at The Welsh Institute of Chiropractic in 2009. During my clinical experience at university, I developed an enthusiasm for the treatment of extremity conditions (foot, knee, hip, shoulder, elbow and wrist), and I have pursued this interest as part of my Continual Professional Development. In addition to this, I have further developed my interests in treatment of the neck and shoulder.
In late 2009 I decided to practice in Torquay. This is where I then developed an interest in how occlusal (jaw) problems can have a dramatic effect on posture and musculoskeletal function. Following this, it led me to work in a multidisciplinary setting with dentists that specialise in occlusal problems.
In 2010 I became a member of the Sacro-Occipital Technique Organisation to commence the 4 year post graduate course. This enabled me to become one of the few chiropractors in the UK to hold this qualification. In the summer of 2011 I completed some work in my hometown of Yorkshire with the players of Bradford City Football club. We currently work with the players of Torquay United and Torquay Rugby Club.
In March 2012 I spent some time working with world renowned Dr Jonathan Howat DC and his team in Oxford to increase my knowledge of Sacro-Occipital Technique and Mal-Occlusion.
During the last 6 years I developed a keen interest in the treatment of pregnant women and paediatrics. This led me to attend specialist post graduate pregnancy and paediatric courses focusing on chiropractic treatment for pregnant patients and babies.
When I’m not in the clinic keeping the people of Torbay in check, you’ll find me in the gym or cooking up a storm in my kitchen!
I first graduated in 2017 where I studied Sports Conditioning Rehabilitation & Massage at Cardiff Metropolitan University. During my time at Cardiff I worked in a variety of settings. This included working in the clinic at the National Indoor Athletic Centre where I also worked specifically with the Athletics team. I worked with the Team Bath Netball Super league team for this season where I dealt with professional athletes and helped prepare for major league games as well as aid in the recovery process.
I always knew that I wanted to be a physiotherapist. So, in 2018 I enrolled on to MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration) at University of Southampton where I studied intensively for 2 years. I would also return to Torbay at the weekends to see my patients. Studying physiotherapy has given me such a wider scope of practice and built upon my experience where I have worked with a huge variety of patients; these include stroke and neurological patients as well as widened my experience within the musculoskeletal field.
After graduating I also took on a job within the local NHS. I worked with a variety of physiotherapists to help develop my skills as well as maintaining my patients at Essential Chiropractic. However, as much I enjoyed my time at the hospital, I knew Team Essential Chiropractic was what I enjoyed the most working in a smaller team with great people.
I like to stay busy so when I’m not working you will catch me walking my dog, at the gym or socialising with friends.
I am currently in my final year of studying BSc Sports Therapy at Plymouth Marjon University. I was lucky enough to complete my second year placement at Essential Chiropractic and have since joined the team. In addition, I have also obtained a FHT Level 4 Soft Tissue Therapy qualification and am now offering Sports Massage appointments every Wednesday.
Throughout my degree I have developed my anatomy and physiology knowledge which I have loved putting into practice throughout my time in the clinic. I enjoy all aspects of my job from reducing pain caused by muscle tightness to helping people post-injury back to their optimal level of strength and fitness. Also, I am looking forward to progressing my knowledge, learning new skills and helping people with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems.
I have always been fascinated by the rehabilitation process and how the correct techniques can speed up and optimise an individual’s recovery. Massage can be useful in both the recovery process and with injury prevention. I am a strong believer that injury prevention is as important as injury recovery and I welcome all patients regardless of their injury or sporting background.
I was first introduced to Chiropractic care in 2011 when Dipty gave a presentation to Torbay Athletic Club. As a regular long-distance runner, it was my first port of call when I picked up an injury. It was amazing how effective chiropractic care was for these types of injuries. Now, I have completed the London Marathon twice, The Grizzly and numerous other running events.
I regularly get adjusted before symptoms occur as I realise the importance of the prevention of injuries and an optimally performing nervous system. In fact, I was such a good patient, I was asked to join the team!
It is so rewarding to see the transformation of our patients. From their first visit, when they may be in pain or discomfort, through to their regular maintenance check-ups and when they are back to full health.
I still enjoy running and generally keeping fit but my favourite activity is getting away from it all, most weekends, with my husband in our motorhome.
